NACE CORROSION 2012, March 11-15, 2012, Salt Lake City, UT—Dr. Elliott's Forum presentation "We Never Get Corrosion Problems on Our Company" addresses opportunities for improving corrosion control over industry in general. This Forum is a follow up on the successful Home session in 2010 (see Materials Performance, Sept. 2011.)Click here to download the presentation!
2012 – C&MC enters its SILVER ANNIVERSARY year with a continued growth of worldwide clients from all sectors of commerce and industry. The work scope continues to broaden as we develop a network of associate experts – worldwide
Litigation & Insurance Work has expanded with current cases involving: toxic chemical release; wire rope fracture; leaking brass plumbing fittings; failed aerosol cans; Chinese drywall issues; guardrail failures; crane basket failure; leaking domestic copper water pipes; UST failures; aerial bucket truck failure; and, a hoist clip failure on a steel lintel. Recent closed cases: steel grating collapse; high temperature nitridation (ammonia plant); dezincification of brass fittings; and, cases involving aerosol can failures.
Materials Testing & Failure Analysis. Materials advisory work: aluminum coils; heater elements; solar energy systems; aerosol cans; materials selection for heat exchanger baffles; materials advise for novel high-temperature metal production from fused salts; HVAC system development work; and, material recommendations for handling enzyme solutions. Recent failures include: intergranular corrosion (copper piping for heating oil); recuperator tube failures; severe hot corrosion (thermal devices); SCC in stressed stainless steel pipe; boiler (evaporator tube) failures; dezincification (brass fittings); deteriorated copper tubing in sulfur-rich surroundings; erosion of poorly installed copper tube; formicary corrosion in copper tubing; and, SCC in insulated copper piping.
Case Histories—many case histories are to be found in Dr. Elliott’s publication: “Gallery of Corrosion Damage”, Metals Handbook, 13B, ASM International, p.629-646, 2005.”
